Later, the army fabricated a story, claiming that “two armed men” stormed a military base, one of whom was killed and the other was arrested. The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor documents daily testimonies of the arrest of hungry civilians, who are subjected to torture, and often to field executions. The Baraka case is a scandalous example: a starving civilian was turned into a propaganda tool to justify war crimes.
