Sheikh and preacher Dr. Wael al-Zard was 51 years old. He earned a master's degree in Hadith in 2001, followed by a Ph.D. from Ain Shams University in Cairo. Dr. Al-Zard worked as a university professor at the College of Applied Sciences and previously at Al-Quds Open University and the Islamic University in Gaza. He was known for leading prayers at the Great Omari Mosque in Gaza City and the Al-Mahata Mosque in the Tuffah neighborhood. On October 13, 2023, Dr. Wael Muhyi al-Din al-Zard was critically injured due to an Israeli strike that targeted his home. Sheikh Al-Zard succumbed to his wounds after three days in intensive care. Weeks before the war, his son Baraa was also killed by the Israeli occupation forces, along with others.
