She had no preexisting conditions, no heart, chest, or neurological illness. Months earlier, she had been admitted for treatment and discharged in stable condition. But under the criminal #Israeli regime's total blockade, her family could not access the necessary food or milk. With no support outside the hospital, her condition deteriorated rapidly. At the time of her death, she had lost 50 percent of her body weight and weighed only 7 kilograms, nearly half the healthy weight for her age. She suffered from marasmic kwashiorkor, one of the most extreme and deadly forms of malnutrition. “The problem is not inside the hospital,” Dr. Ahmad al-Farra says. “The problem is that outside the hospital, children are starving to death before they even reach us.”
